The Design Sprint was developed by Jake Knapp at Google Ventures and popularized in the book "Sprint," written with John Zeratsky and Braden Kowitz. It lets a team validate an idea with end users in just five days, as a shortcut to learning without building and launching the full solution. Design Sprint 2.0, created with the agency AJ&Smart, condenses the process into four days.
The DSPC™ is designed for anyone working on innovation or product development. It does not require a paid course. You study the official material at your own pace, take the exam online when you feel ready, and only pay if you decide to make your result official.

of the failed VC-backed startups analyzed by CB Insights cited poor product-market fit as a reason for their failure.
CB Insights, Why Startups Fail: Top 9 Reasons (2026)85%
of usability problems were found by a first test with only five participants, according to Jakob Nielsen's research.

What you'll learn
The innovation mindset
Why innovation needs experimentation, collaboration, trust and empathy, and the idea of failing fast to learn faster.
Design Thinking, Lean and Agile
How the three approaches combine: explore the problem, build the right thing and build things right.
Lean Startup and the MVP
The Build-Measure-Learn cycle, testing hypotheses with a minimum viable product, and deciding whether to pivot or persevere.
What a Design Sprint is
Its origin at Google Ventures, when to use it, when not to use it, and the difference between a prototype, an MVP and a product.
Design Sprint 2.0 and the sprint team
The four-day version, the preparation work, and the roles of a team of seven or fewer people, including a facilitator and a definer who makes the final decisions.
Map, sketch and decide
Long-term goals, sprint questions and "How might we" notes, the map, lightning demos, Crazy 8s, solution sketches, the super vote, the user test flow and the storyboard.
Prototype
The prototype mindset and the roles that build a realistic prototype in a single day: makers, stitcher, writer, reviewer and interviewer.
Test with users
Interviews with five users of up to one hour each, identifying patterns, reviewing the sprint questions and defining next steps.
The official study guide is organized in three modules: an introduction to the innovation mindset, Design Thinking, Lean and Lean Startup; an introduction to the Design Sprint; and the day-by-day Design Sprint 2.0 process.
